Behind the Scenes
The photographs are just the final result of Janine Pendleton's journey through forgotten places. She offers her viewers a glimpse behind the scenes to show what goes into each shot beyond just pressing the camera button.
Finding the right locations, followed by long and eventful trips—each stage is filled with thrilling memories spent in the company of friends and loved ones. Even upon reaching the destination, getting inside abandoned buildings requires ingenuity and patience, and sometimes a touch of humor. Navigating through these old structures comes with numerous hazards, posing threats to both health and equipment. Once, her camera fell from a fully extended tripod right onto the lens in one of the French châteaux, resulting in costly repairs.
When Janine leaves each location, she takes with her not only photographs but also memories of every moment spent in those places. And behind her, the dust of oblivion settles once more. Looking back at the photos, she sees how a simple dilapidated building can transport her to distant corners of the world that would hardly come to mind in everyday life.
