Discussing two different methods for defining the boundaries of Hong Kong's 18 regions on the map.
For those interested in working with geospatial data, the boundaries of Hong Kong (not Google version) are now available for download as a GeoJSON file.
Additionally, we provide a separate GeoJSON file with the boundaries of each region individually — perfect for your own projects and mapping needs.

When mapping the 18 regions of Hong Kong, we’ve encountered two distinct approaches for defining the boundaries.
The first method follows the regional boundaries as defined by Google, but these borders do not fit tightly together, leaving visible gaps on the map.
Alternatively, there’s another way to map these regions with seamless boundaries, but we’re unsure which of these approaches better reflects the real-world administrative divisions of Hong Kong.
We’ve included screenshots that illustrate the differences between the two approaches.
In these images, our current version is shown with red fill, while the official Google version is outlined in blue.
We’ve also added two specific images to highlight the Wan Chai district. One image shows how it appears in our current version, and the second shows how it’s represented on OpenStreetMap.
We kindly ask local residents or anyone familiar with the real-life geography of Hong Kong’s regions to share their insights and help us determine which approach is more accurate.
Your feedback would be invaluable!
